Senator Morrison to GFD & GPD:

Video Security Cameras Protect Families, Aid Law Enforcement

Today, Senator Tommy Morrison sent a letter to Fire Chief Joey San Nicolas and Police Chief J.I. Cruz urging the Guam Fire Department (GFD) and Guam Police Department (GPD) to include video security cameras within Guam’s broader public safety infrastructure. Senator Morrison authored P.L. 33-41 which authorizes a portion of E-911 Fund proceeds for the purchase of video security cameras to help with the deterrence, reporting, and investigation of various crimes. With the procurement of a new Emergency 911 System in the works, Senator Morrison is calling upon GFD and GPD to prioritize the integration of video security cameras – particularly as these systems continue to help families and businesses report criminal activities to law enforcement authorities in a timely manner.

“Whether it was the incident last month at a grocery store involving a man taking pictures of underneath a woman’s skirt, or the home burglary that was avoided this past week, there’s no doubt that footage from video security cameras operated by the store and homeowner helped GPD move forward with its investigation process. While the men and women of our public safety and law enforcement agencies continue to work hard every day to protect our families, they can’t be everywhere at all times. Therefore, the use of video security camera systems in public areas must be prioritized so that we can DETER CRIME – and send a strong message to criminals that they will be caught,” stated Senator Morrison.
